Robert Zammit li, daqs sena u nofs ilu, mexxa kampanja biex jidħol l-absentee voting, kiteb lill-Kummissarju Għoli Malti f’Londra l-ittra li ġejja:
Dear High Commissioner,
I hope this email finds you well. As an active member of London’s Maltese Community, I take great courage in your personal commitment to the Maltese community here in the UK. With that in mind, I wanted to raise an important issue for many of us here, including I hope your kind self.
A year and a half ago, a few months prior to the general election, a group of us began a campaign and online petition in favour of allowing Maltese eligible voters living abroad to vote in their country of residence: at an embassy, via a postal vote, or via online voting. Our cause made it to all three major parties’ manifestos. Since then, there have been numerous encouraging statements from government representatives – including at the most recent meeting of the Council of Maltese Living Abroad – but no specific commitment. In light of this, I wondered whether you were aware of any further detail regarding the government’s plans on this important issue, and if not, whether you would consider raising this with the relevant Ministers.
I will put this email – and your response – on our online Facebook group. Should you or anyone in your office wish to discuss this in more detail, I am at your disposal. I thank you in advance for your kind consideration.
With many best wishes,
Zammit stieden lill-Maltin oħrajn barra minn Malta biex huma wkoll jiktbu lill-ambaxxatur Malti għall-pajjiż li joqgħodu fih.
